Commitment & Integration

Our Commitment

ESG considerations, including a focus on diversity and inclusion, are part of Brightstar’s DNA. We integrate these considerations into every step of the investment process as outlined in our ESG Policy. In our pre-investment due diligence, we engage internal and external experts to identify and evaluate ESG risks and value creation opportunities on a per company basis. This analysis seeks to identify the operational areas with greatest likelihood, vulnerability, and potential for significant ESG impact.

During our ownership period we work with our portfolio company management teams to increase awareness of ESG principles and related risks and opportunities. We aim to ensure that material ESG risks identified in due diligence are addressed and actively work with portfolio company management to generate long-term value through ESG-focused initiatives.

Sourcing

At the earliest stages of our investment process we screen every opportunity for ESG ‘red flags’ and conduct an industry analysis focusing on outlook and trends.

Due Diligence

In our pre-investment due diligence, we engage internal and external experts to identify and evaluate ESG risks and value creation opportunities on a per company basis. During this time, we seek to find areas with the greatest capability, potential, and likelihood for significant ESG impact.

Ownership Period

Throughout our ownership period we actively work with portfolio company management to develop a plan to address ESG risks and identify focused initiatives to generate long-term value through ESG.

Our Governance Structure

The Brightstar leadership team is ultimately responsible for the firm’s responsible investment strategy and D&I initiatives. The Investment Committee assesses every opportunity and oversees progress at the portfolio company and fund level. In 2021 we took an important step in our ESG journey and hired a Chief Sustainability Officer to bring in-house relevant expertise and serve as a partner and resource to our investment teams, portfolio companies and investors.

Diversity & Inclusion

At our firm and portfolio companies, we strive to create and maintain a workplace in which all employees have an opportunity to participate and contribute to the success of the business and are valued for their skills, experience, and unique perspectives. This responsibility is undertaken by building a diverse, affirming, and inclusive environment and by arming leadership with recruitment, retention and engagement initiatives that will support these goals for years to come.
