ESG considerations, including a focus on diversity and inclusion, are part of Brightstar’s DNA. We integrate these considerations into every step of the investment process as outlined in our ESG Policy. In our pre-investment due diligence, we engage internal and external experts to identify and evaluate ESG risks and value creation opportunities on a per company basis. This analysis seeks to identify the operational areas with greatest likelihood, vulnerability, and potential for significant ESG impact.
During our ownership period we work with our portfolio company management teams to increase awareness of ESG principles and related risks and opportunities. We aim to ensure that material ESG risks identified in due diligence are addressed and actively work with portfolio company management to generate long-term value through ESG-focused initiatives.
The Brightstar leadership team is ultimately responsible for the firm’s responsible investment strategy and D&I initiatives. The Investment Committee assesses every opportunity and oversees progress at the portfolio company and fund level. In 2021 we took an important step in our ESG journey and hired a Chief Sustainability Officer to bring in-house relevant expertise and serve as a partner and resource to our investment teams, portfolio companies and investors.
